The idea is that surfaces should be only used for activities that require space and not left idle. If you keep surfaces clear, you create an environment conducive to productivity, focus, and relaxation.

The land, the space in your home, and the office should be organized to serve you. When you reduce the idleness of surfaces, you make them more functional, usable, and productive facilitating your growth and development.
